Answers to some frequently asked Chromebook questions.
- My Chromebook isn't working properly. What should I do?
Contact the IT help desk! Send us an email at helpdesk@ravenscroft.org, submit a ticket through our web portal at https://helpdesk.ravenscroft.org, or visit the help desk in person in the Keim Center.
- I forgot my Chromebook or my charger at home. Can I get a loaner?
Yes! Visit the help desk in the Keim Center and we’ll give you a loaner to use for the day. Just remember that you’re responsible for returning the loaned equipment before you leave campus. Don’t lose it!
- My Chromebook needs to be repaired. What do I do if I need my loaner for more than one day?
If we need to keep your Chromebook to be repaired, we’ll issue you a loaner to use until yours is ready. How long repairs take can vary depending on the repair and the time of year, but we’ll try and get your Chromebook back to you as quickly as we can.
- Why do I keep getting emails about returning a loaner Chromebook or charger?
When we hand out loaner equipment, this is supposed to be returned at the end of the day, before you leave campus. The only exception to this is if we’re keeping your equipment to be repaired. In some cases, if the need arises, we can arrange loaning out equipment for a longer period of time. But this should be arranged with us in advance. If for some reason you can’t return something, let us know! We know you don’t want to be getting a ton of emails, and we’d rather not have to send them!
- My stylus/charger is lost or broken. Can I get a new one?
Chargers: If your charger is broken, bring it to the help desk. We will always replace broken chargers for free. If you lost your charger, you should still come and see us at the help desk. Each student is entitled to one free replacement. Any subsequent replacements would be for a fee.
Styluses: Replacing styluses with an identical one from the manufacturer is expensive, and we've found that they take a long time to come in. We are now offering replacement styluses from a third-party. They do not fit inside the chromebook (so you need to be careful not to lose it), but they work the same way as the ones that came with the device. If you need a replacement stylus, then just visit the help desk.
- How is lost equipment paid for?
If you need to pay to replace lost equipment, then the charge is placed on your student account. This has to go through the business office and may take a few weeks to appear. Please note that no payment is taken at the help desk for any reason. Some approximate prices for different items are listed below. Please remember that these are approximate, and are subject to change. Exact prices will be determined at the time of an incident.

Stylus (All Black, Non-Charging): $30.00
Stylus (Red Tip, Charging): $45.00
Hard Shell Case: Varies depending on Chromebook model ($30.00 or $35.00)
If an entire Chromebook is lost, the price can vary widely and will be determined at the time of an incident.
- Why does my Chromebook restart by itself?
All of the Chromebooks managed by Ravenscroft will automatically restart occasionally. This gives them a chance to install updates, and may also help them run faster and smoother.
- I need to use a particular application for a class or school-related activity, but I can’t install it. Can you help?
If you want to install a school-related app on your Chromebook, but are blocked from doing so, let a teacher know. If your app is required for schoolwork, they are able to submit requests to the help desk for an app to be available.
